The last of Coltrane's Atlantic albums, Ol, was recorded in May 1961, two days after his "Impulse!" debut, Africa/Brass. This groundbreaking album features McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones, Eric Dolphy , a very young Freddie Hubbard, and bassists Art Davis and Reggie Workman.

The intricate rhythm patterns and varied sonic textures on Ol Coltrane are proof that John Coltrane has once again charted his own course. His sheer ability as an outsider - above and beyond his considerable musical abilities - takes works like this to new levels and ultimately advances the entire art form.
