  • Denton, Texas is the hometown of Midlake and "Van Occupanther" is not the first album of the quintet. Already in 2004 the debut "Bamnan And Silvercork" was released, which was largely overlooked, but nevertheless received with much enthusiasm by the critics
    Q already wrote at the time "Not since Mercury Rev's 'Deserter's Songs' has an American band sounded so much just like themselves, so otherworldly and so enchanting," while Logo Magazine proclaimed "At moments, this ARE the Flaming Lips. Only better!" Midlake's performance at SXSW 2005 was one of the big attention-getters, just as they cleaned up at Coachella 2005, and at least since then have been counted among the "great things to watch in 2006" in the US alternative press.
