Current 82 (12 Mix) / Dark Plan 5 is the kind of record that rewards close listening as much as it does DJ use. DJ Sotofett and SVN work in that slippery zone between dub, house, techno and leftfield club music, and both sides have a patient, searching quality that makes them feel deeper than simple tools. The grooves are understated but very alive, with tiny shifts in texture and rhythm doing a lot of the work. Nothing is rushed, nothing is over-explained, and that restraint gives the record its tension.

What makes this release stand out is its sense of atmosphere and control. It feels functional in the best possible way, built for movement, but also full of odd little details and tonal decisions that keep pulling your ear back in. There is a murky, nocturnal feel to it, but it never becomes dull or purely utilitarian. It is club music with a strong sense of mood, and the kind of 12" that tends to linger in peoples bags because it can do several different jobs depending on the room.
