At the tender age of 22, Otis Redding already displayed a maturity in his distinctive raspy voice that has served as a benchmark for soul ever since. His first album, 1964's Pain In My Heart, features "These Arms Of Mine," his first hit from 1962, and his versatility is evident in the widely varied selection of Material, including "The Dog" by Rufus Thomas, "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King, "You Send Me" by Sam Cooke and "Lucille" by Little Richard. He is backed by Stax Records house band Booker T.&The MGs and the horns of the Mar-Keys. The album predicted a wonderful career for Redding, which unfortunately would only last three short years after the release of "Pain In My Heart".
