  • Eric Clapton has been in the spotlight for almost fifty years now and the image of him as an artist is very complex - from his beginnings as a guitar legend to an extremely sensitive songwriter and interpreter of various genres such as blues and jazz, rock or country. His albums are stylistically very versatile and cover a wide variety of themes, but few feel as much like a whole as Slowhand does
Slowhand was recorded at Olympic Studios in southwest London in May 1977 and produced by Glyn Johns. It reached number 2 in the billboard charts and stayed there for five weeks. Overall, the album remained on the American album charts for 74 weeks
Slowhand features songs like Wonderful Tonight, Lay Down Sally and Cocaine - songs you still hear regularly on the radio and at Eric Clapton's concerts. So long after its release, it has a firm place in Clapton's oeuvre. The album features cover versions of songs by some of his favourite songwriters (JJ Cale, John Martyn, Don Williams, Arthur Crudup) side by side with original compositions by Eric Clapton
ReviewsFor all the radio fitness of numbers like "Laydown Sally" with his Country Groove, the bitter-sweet ballad "Wonderful Tonight" or its catchy J. J. Cale acquisition "Cocaine" delivered Eric Clapton with Slowhand a diversified like a substantial album. He let his country Inclination free run (Don Williams' "We're All The Way"), searched for his Blues roots ("Mean Old Frisco"), it let it instrumental melodious flow ("Peaches And Diesel")." (Good Times, February / March 2013)
